Good morning, Queen Creek. A heat warning runs through 8 PM Sunday with afternoon highs of 103 to 111, so anything outdoors this weekend belongs to the early morning.

  • 🍽️ Queen Creek Restaurant Week runs through Sunday. Third year, chamber-run, specials at participating restaurants across town.
  • 🐴 Open riding Saturday at the Chapman Automotive Group Arena. 6 AM to noon, waiver required.
  • 🫒 A 5 Chile paint and sip at the Olive Mill Wednesday. $60 a ticket, 6:30 PM.
  • 🏫 Higley Unified nominates three for a board vacancy. Brooke Garrett, Kimberly Jackson, and Travis White.
  • 📚 Five library programs between tonight and next Thursday. Teens, families, puzzles, and a romance book club.
  • 🎤 Four valley shows tonight. Chandler, Tempe, and two in downtown Phoenix.

Restaurant week is halfway through

The third annual Queen Creek Restaurant Week is in its back half and wraps Sunday.

Key facts:

  • Runs August 17 through 23. Sunday is the last day.
  • Hosted by the Queen Creek Chamber of Commerce, now in its third year.
  • Participating restaurants are running specials and limited-time menu items for the week.
  • The point is breadth: the chamber built it to push residents toward dining rooms they have not tried yet.

The timing is doing the promotion no favors and a favor at the same time. Nobody is sitting on a patio at 108 degrees, which makes a week built around walking into an air-conditioned dining room an easier sell than usual. The restaurant list and the specials are posted on the chamber's announcement.

What to watch: the week ends Sunday, roughly the same hour the heat warning lifts. Details and participating restaurants.

From the schools

🔧 QCUSD is making the case for on-campus career and technical education. The district published a look at how its CTE programs have landed with students, teachers, and families, with the programs run on the home campus rather than shipped elsewhere. That framing matters locally, because the alternative model in the East Valley involves busing students to a separate campus. Details.

🗳️ Higley Unified, the district covering western Queen Creek, has narrowed a governing board vacancy to three names. The board nominated Brooke Garrett, Kimberly Jackson, and Travis White. The appointment fills a seat rather than going to voters. Details.

🎒 The Kiwanis Club of Queen Creek and the district's Family Resource Center ran back-to-school shopping for students this month. A small, recurring piece of the start-of-year machinery that mostly happens out of sight. Details.
